Members of the University of Cape Coast Branch of the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Associations of Ghana (FUSSAG) have decided to withdraw their services for 5 days effective 3rd February, 2014 to protest the delay in the payment of January, 2014 salaries and the 2013 salary arrears owed them by the Government. This is a follow-up to a resolution passed by the union at a general meeting held on Thursday 16th January, 2014.

The decision to withdraw the services was made at a general meeting of the union held on Monday, 3rd February, 2014. Earlier, the union decried the delay in the payment of the eight months arrears spanning January-August, 2013. According to the union, changes in economic conditions including hikes in prices of goods and services have eroded the value of the money. It was emphasised that members of the union would no longer tolerate further delay in the payment of the arrears. The union further indicated that its members would not countenance any delay in the payment of January, 2014 salaries and salaries of subsequent months.

The decision to restore the services withdrawn will depend on the response from the Government and the University Management to the two critical issues confronting members of FUSSAG and all other staff of the University.
