Sissla East MP must apologize - Wallembelle Opinion leaders
" border="0" align="left" class="photo" hspace="10" style="float:left;"/> Opinion leaders of Wallembelle, a community in the Sissala East district of the Upper West region are demanding immediate apology from the Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Alijata Sulemana for allegedly churning out false information that she constructed a six unit classroom block in their community.

The MP, in a publication by the Ghana News Agency on the 4th of January 2014, is reported to have said that she used her share of the District Assembly common Fund to construct a six unit classroom block in the community.

However, Dauda Tanko Danniel, the assemblyman of the Wallembelle electoral area, in an interview with Citi News said the publication is a complete falsehood since no such project is in the community saying, “I want to put it on record that there is no such project in Wallembelle and this can easily be verified because Wallembelle is not in Jupiter.”

He said the community is very much worried about the comments by the MP and called on her to retract them because schools in the area are still grappling with over population due to inadequate classroom accommodation.

“As I speak to you now, her comments are creating a lot of confusion in my electoral area and she can really do us a lot of good by retracting those comments,” he added.

The assemblyman alleged that contrary to the publication, Alijata, diverted an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre project which was approved by members of the Sissala East District Assembly to be constructed in Wallembelle to Pieng, her ancestral village.

He warned the MP to desist from passing such untrue comments or risk the wrath of the people in his electoral area. He further called on journalist to be circumspect in their reportage.

When contacted, Madam Alijata insisted the project can be sighted at Wallembelle saying, “how can I tell such a lie? There are documents about the project at the Assembly and you can check that yourself. Whatever you people want to do, you can go ahead I don’t care”.

Citi News checks at both the primary and the Junior and Senior High schools at Wellembelle revealed no such project has been constructed since 2012.

The presiding member of the Sissala East District assembly Mr. Alex Bapulah described the assertion by the Mp as “misleading”.

He said there are no such documents at the Assembly as claimed by the MP.
