Residents compelled demolition - TDC
" border="0" align="left" class="photo" hspace="10" style="float:left;"/> The Public Relations Officer of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC), Dorothy Asare Kuma has attributed the TDC’s demolition exercise in the Tema West Constituency to failure of the residents to comply with rules given by the TDC.

“TDC decided to formalise their stay in the area so we gave them a cut off point so they dont build beyond a certain point but they disobeyed those regulations,” she stated.
TDC demolished dozens of houses in that section of the Metropolis.

The demolition exercise, carried out with support from armed Police and Military team, rendered about 3,000 residents in the area, which is at the heart of the Constituency, homeless.

A former Minister for Local Government, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has also expressed disappointment in the manner in which TDC demolished houses in the Constituency.

According to the Minister, TDC should have dialogued with the people to move instead of rendering them homeless.

But speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show , Ms. Kuma said the demolition was not sudden because the TDC informed the residents ahead of the demolition exercise.

She further stated that failure on the part of residents to pay their dues to the TDC had also led to halted further construction works in the constituency..

“Not one person pays a pesewa to TDC so we have to look for funds elsewhere and try to relocate all these civil servants who were given illegal allocations. We are still struggling to allocate these people.”
