Minority to investigate Merbank sale
" border="0" align="left" class="photo" hspace="10" style="float:left;"/> The Minority group in Parliament has announced that they will pursue investigations into the controversial sale of Merchant Bank to Fortiz Private Equity Fund.

They have since appealed to the public to volunteer information on the deal.

This comes three days after the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho dismissed the NPP MP-sponsored motion calling for a Parliamentary probe into the deal.

At a press conference on Thursday, Minority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu indicated he, together with his colleagues will not be perturbed by the developments on the matter and assured Ghanaians and contributors to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) that they will “stand by the people and stand by the truth.”

He noted that since MPs are representatives of the people, they “will double results…to protect and preserve public property and expose and combat misuse and waste of public funds and property.”

Mr. Mensah-Bonsu mentioned that the Minority is determined to conduct its own investigations into the matter since the Majority in Parliament used their numbers “to stifle Parliamentary investigations into this deal.”

Reacting to the President’s statement that he in no way interfered in matters concerning Merchant Bank and its transactions, the Minority leader said “time will tell the truthfulness or otherwise in this Presidential declaration.”

He also accused the Speaker of premeditated ruling on Bimbilla MP, Dominic Nitiwul’s motion on the Merchant Bank sale.

Mr. Nitiwul’s motion was dismissed on grounds that the matter is pending before the law court and any investigation will prejudice the case before the Court of Appeal.
