Threats to freeze our salaries are empty - FUSSAG
The General Secretary of the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Associations of Ghana (FUSSAG), Mr. Jacob Emmanuel Eshun has described threats from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to freeze their salaries as “empty”

“We see this as an empty threat. The decision was taken at the National Executive council meeting which means that we are prepared for that. So, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission can go ahead” he said.

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) had threatened to freeze the salaries of FUSSAG members following their decision to embark on a nationwide strike from Monday.

But in an interview on Eyewitness News Mr. Eshun said, the FWSC’s decision was "no news” at all because in 2007 when some workers embarked on strike and had their salaries frozen, nobody died.

“I am sure you know that this is not the first time a group of workers are going on strike. So, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission can go ahead and freeze our salaries. We are prepared for that,” said the General Secretary of FUSSAG.

According to him, the commission should rather focus on addressing the demands of FUSSAG instead of issuing threats.

“We wrote a letter to you on the 14th of February, you met us on May 15. May 15, we did not agree on issues. You were to conduct job evaluation and for 3 months you have not done it. So if we are going on strike and you are saying it is illegal, they can go ahead and issue that letter” he added.

He maintained that they would embark on the strike until their demands were addressed.
